Calling all budding Indiana Jones’s and Lara Crofts!
Simon Chapman - real life explorer and author- is coming to Linton to show you how to survive some of the toughest environments on the planet.
Author of the hugely successful Explorers Wanted series and winner of the 2006 Blue Peter Children’s Books Award for Best Book with Facts, Simon has recently branched into fiction with three titles for Barrington Stoke.
A huge hit at the 2006 Festival, Simon has many more hair-raising stories to relate to us, including his 2008 expedition down the Amazon in the footsteps of the legendary 16th century Spanish explorer Juan Alvarez Maldonado…

We are proud to announce that Maggie Bateson and Louise Comfort will be coming to Linton on Saturday May 8th 2010. We tried to book them for the last book festival but they were unable to come! Now, at last, in May 2010 these talented people will talk about how they create their delightful fairy pop-up books in a session that will interest the adults as well as the children.
Then they will run fairy making workshops which will conclude with the children naming their fairy and waving a wand over them to help them to pop-up.
Pop in to the Cathodeon Centre and pop up for for some magic with Maggie and Louise at Linton Infant School on Saturday 8th May.

We are delighted to announce that Rod Halls will be our narrator for the final event of the next Linton Children’s Book Festival, a performance of Prokfiev’s much loved musical tale of “Peter and the Wolf” with the Linton Festival Orchestra.
As the recently retired Headmaster of Linton Heights Junior School, Rod has seen many of the Linton children grow up. He is making a welcome return to our village and is sure to inspire and impress us again with his storytelling abilities, and that once very familiar and sonorous voice!

For the younger children we are delighted to confirm that Kumiko Mendl will be in Linton to tell the Japanese legend of Tanabata at our Children’s Book Festival. This beautiful tale of friendship is set amongst the stars and retold using traditional Kamishibai (paper theatre) music and puppet fans for children 3-5yrs and their families.
It is the story of Princess Weaving Star and her friend Boy who looks after the herd of cows, belonging to the Emperor of the Night Sky. The Emperor disapproves of his daughter’s friendship, but after many adventures, he relents and lets the friends meet once a year on the Princess’s birthday, the seventh day of the seventh month, where they play by the starry banks of the Milkyway. This day is now called Tanabata.
Come and see the story unfold on Saturday 8th May at the Linton Infants School and join Kumiko making origami creations after the show.
